Patna: Three members of a family, including father-son duo, died after inhaling toxic gases while cleaning a septic tank in their house at Salaha Bujurg village under Larjhaghat police station area of Samastipur district on Tuesday evening. The victims were identified as Daya Ram Sah (45), his 15-year-old son, Radheyshyam Kumar, and Umesh Sah (45), one of their relatives, police said.According to the police, Daya called Umesh to check a water leakage in the septic tank. Umeash entered the tank and fell unconscious. Daya went inside to see what happened, but he did not return. His panicked son, Radheyshyam, also entered the tank and also fainted inside. Local residents, upon hearing the commotion in the family, gathered at the house and promptly arranged a JCB machine, and pull out the trio using ropes. The victims were rushed to the community health centre (CHC), Hasanpur, where doctors referred them to a higher medical facility, but they died on the way, they added.Dr Raj Kumar Thakur at Hasanpur CHC, who provided initial treatment to the victims, claimed that all the three men had low blood pressure that necessitated their referral.Sub-inspector of Larjhaghat police station, Jitendra Kumar, said, "Police received information that three people fell unconscious while cleaning the septic tank of their house in Salha Buzurg village on Tuesday evening. All the three were taken out of the tank with the help of villagers, but they died before reaching the hospital. Bodies have been sent for postmortem and further investigations are underway."
