Bokaro: A 36-year-old man stabbed his wife following a heated argument at the latter's paternal home in a Giridih village late on Wednesday night. As Meena, 32, succumbed to her injuries on the spot, her enraged family members lynched her husband Chotelal Hansda. The incident took place in Lukaiya village under Mufassil police station limits, the police said on Thursday. Chotelal and Meena have a six-year-old daughter.The police on Thursday evening said a few people, including family members of Meena and neighbours, were detained for questioning. However, formal arrests were not made till late in the night. The bodies were sent for post-mortem on Thursday.Meena's father Chandlal Murmu told the police that his daughter had been living at his house for some time now. On Wednesday night, the couple had an argument when Chotelal insisted on taking Meena to his home, who is a resident of the same panchayat area.Soon, another argument broke out in the courtyard between the couple. Chotelal then pulled out a knife and stabbed Meena. Chandlal, who was close by, ran inside the house after hearing his daughter's screams and saw her bleeding profusely. Meena succumbed to her injuries soon after.Enraged family members of Meena then caught hold of Chotelal as he tried to flee the village. Accompanied by locals, the kin then thrashed him brutally, leading to his death on the spot. "The husband, who was trying to escape from the spot after killing his wife, was killed by his in-laws. The police are questioning some people in this case. Further investigation is underway," sadar sub-divisional police officer Jeetwahan Oraon said.
