NEW DELHI: The mother of Vikas alias Raja, who was killed in a police encounter near Damaiya Ghat in Patna, on Tuesday claimed she was unaware of any wrongdoing by her son and said he used to work in Chennai. Vikas was one of the accused in the murder case of businessman Gopal Khemka and had been identified by police as the arms supplier to the main suspect. "What did my son do? He used to work in Chennai..." said the mother of the deceased. According to police, Vikas was killed around 2:45 am in an encounter near Damaiya Ghat, within the jurisdiction of Malsalami police station. A pistol and cartridge were recovered from the scene. His body has been sent to Nalanda Medical College for post-mortem examination. Meanwhile, the key accused in the case has also been arrested, police said. Businessman Gopal Khemka was shot dead on July 4 near the main gate of his residence in Patna's Gandhi Maidan area. He had previously requested police protection for his family. Speaking to ANI, JD(U) leader Rajeev Ranjan said, "As per the information we have received, the Police have killed an accused in the Khemka murder case who tried to attack the police. Nitish Kumar ji is monitoring every incident." In his FIR statement recorded on Saturday, Gaurav Khemka, son of the slain businessman, mentioned that his brother, Gunjan Khemka, had also been murdered in 2018. "After this incident, my family and I are frightened. We request that the government and police provide us with security and ensure the safety of our family. Also, the perpetrators should be arrested and punished," he wrote. Describing the night of the murder, Gaurav said that around 8.30pm, his father had left for Bankipore Club. When he returned at around 11:20 pm, assailants who were waiting at the gate shot him in the head. "After hearing the gunshot and being alerted by the building guard, my wife and I rushed to the gate. We found my father lying in a pool of blood. We took him to the hospital, where doctors declared him dead," he said.
