Jamshedpur, March 30: Strengthening security at Tatanagar Railway Station, the Railway Protection Force (RPF) successfully apprehended a habitual mobile thief during a late-night operation, recovering two stolen mobile phones from his possession. The accused, identified as Vikas Modi, is reportedly a resident of the station vicinity and had been under surveillance for his alleged involvement in multiple mobile theft incidents targeting passengers on trains and within the station premises. According to RPF sources, he had been evading authorities for some time. The breakthrough came after RPF personnel meticulously reviewed CCTV footage from the station and onboard train cameras, which clearly established Modi's identity. Acting on this intelligence, a targeted operation was launched, culminating in his arrest last night. Investigations revealed that Modi had stolen a passenger's mobile phone on March 28 from Coach of Train No. 12906 Shalimar-Porbandar Express. He was also involved in another theft aboard Train No. 12130 Howrah-Pune Azad Hind Express. Both incidents had been formally reported, prompting sustained efforts by the RPF and railway police. The recovery of both stolen devices at the time of arrest has corroborated the charges against him. Officials stated that enhanced surveillance and the strategic use of technology played a crucial role in tracking and capturing the accused. Following his arrest, Modi has been handed over to the Tatanagar Railway Police for further legal proceedings.
