New Delhi, Jul 9 (PTI) A 23-year-old man has been arrested at the Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGI) here for allegedly impersonating as a Delhi Police sub-inspector by using a forged identity card and fake appointment documents, an official said on Wednesday. The accused, identified as Sahil Kumar, is a resident of Ladpur in Rajasthan's Alwar district and allegedly used the fake identity to target and befriend women victims, including Delhi Police personnel. "Kumar, who was wearing a T-shirt with a Delhi Police logo at the time of detention, was held on Monday by CISF personnel during routine surveillance at Terminal-3. "When questioned, he failed to provide a credible explanation regarding his supposed posting and gave evasive responses," Additional Commissioner of Police (IGI) Usha Rangnani said in a statement. She said that upon further checking, a suspicious identity card marked "PSI Delhi Police" was found in his possession. The card, along with other documents such as a forged appointment letter and a handbag containing blank case diaries and stamped pages purportedly from the Delhi Police Academy (DPA), were later seized. The CISF lodged a complaint, following which an FIR was registered at the IGI Airport Police Station on July 7. Kumar was arrested and a probe was launched, the officer said. A special investigation team was formed to probe the matter. During sustained interrogation, Kumar confessed that he had posed as a sub-inspector of the 2024 batch to impress and deceive women, including staffers of the Delhi Police. "One of the women he contacted through social media confirmed that the accused had claimed to be posted at IGI Airport as a Delhi Police SI. "Kumar admitted to fabricating the ID card and appointment letter using self-taught photoshop skills. He had also procured parts of the Delhi Police uniform from the Camp area of Delhi," the officer added. The accused further disclosed that he had completed his schooling up to class 12 and was currently residing with a relative in Rohini while preparing for competitive exams. "He told investigators that he came to the airport to meet one of the women he had befriended through his fake identity. His motive was primarily to impress and mislead women by portraying himself as a serving police officer," said the Additional CP. A mobile phone recovered from his possession contained multiple photographs of him in police uniform, further supporting the allegations of impersonation. The items seized in the case include a forged Delhi Police ID card, a fake appointment letter, blank pages bearing DPA stamps, fake documents and a mobile phone used for communication and misrepresentation.
