Mumbai: The Vinobha Bhave Nagar Police have arrested a 22-year-old man who had been on the run for three years in connection with the sexual assault of a minor girl. The accused, Naushad Israr Ahmed, had been evading arrest since July 18, 2022, when a case was registered against him under IPC Sections 363 (kidnapping), 376 (rape), 354 (assault on woman), and Sections 4, 8, and 12 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.According to police, Naushad had changed his identity several times and moved across Gujarat, Rajasthan, Delhi, and Uttar Pradesh, frequently altering his appearance and using false names to mislead investigators. In a calculated attempt to stay off the radar, he had used 65 different SIM cards over three years and kept switching mobile phones. A breakthrough came after technical surveillance and a tip-off from a secret informant revealed that the accused was working as a truck driver for a private logistics company at the Safe Express Courier Godown in Padmala, Vadodara, Gujarat. Based on this lead, police confirmed that Naushad was frequently traveling between Gujarat, Rajasthan, Delhi, and Uttar Pradesh, making it harder to trace him. After obtaining necessary approvals, a team led by Police Officer Sonawane traveled to Vadodara, where they laid a trap and apprehended the accused at the courier godown.
