Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala Congress (M) leader Jose K Mani on Tuesday asserted that his party has no plans to quit the Left Democratic Front (LDF) or join the United Democratic Front (UDF), dismissing speculation triggered by the party's performance in the local body elections. He was addressing the media after attending the LDF meeting on Tuesday. He told the media that LDF would examine the reasons behind the poll setback in detail. "LDF secured 2,198 votes in the Pala Assembly constituency. In Thodupuzha municipality, the Joseph group won only one seat. In the local body elections, Kerala Congress (M) has retained its traditional vote base. When the results are examined closely, the UDF's victory margin was only around 2,000 votes. Of the 14 district panchayats, the LDF won seven. We will continue to support the LDF with full strength," he explained. The Kerala Congress (M) leader further argued that his party had not suffered any major organisational setback and had largely retained the status quo. "Some voters may have shifted to the UDF. I accept the people's mandate with humility," he added. However, he declined to comment on the reasons for the LDF's defeat, saying the LDF convener would address the issue after detailed discussions within the front.
