Bihar Assembly Election: Bihar, which witnessed a record voter turnout-the highest in state's history- in the recently-held assembly elections, also saw another unique phenomenon in the polls as women outdid men by at least 14 percentage points in as many as seven districts, while the gap was well over 10 percent in 10 other districts. According to the gender-wise voter turnout released by the Election Commission, compared to men, more women exercised their franchise in 37 out of 38 districts of Bihar, with outvoting the opposite gender by 14 percent or more in seven districts, and by more than 10 percentage points in 10 districts. As per the EC data, Supaul recorded the biggest gap at 20.71 percentage points, as 83.69 percent of the women exercised their franchise, while 62.98 percent of the men voted in the polls. Kishanganj (19.5 percent), Madhubani (18.4), Gopalganj (17.72), Araria (14.43), Darbhanga (14.41) and Madhepura (14.24), also showed a large gap in voting trends in favour of women. Similarly, Siwan (13.83), Purnea (13.36), Sheohar (12.48), Sitamarhi (12.43), Saharsa (12.37), Purvi Champaran (11.13), Paschim Champaran (11.03), Khagaria (10.66), Samastipur (10.64) and Banka (10.53) districts recorded a voter turnout where women voter turnout saw a gap of over 10 percent compared to men, the data showed. Meanwhile, Patna was the only district in the state where male voters recorded a higher turnout than women (less than 3 percent), with EC data showing that 57.88 percent of the women voters casting their votes, while a 60.05 percent turnout was recorded among men voters. Phase-wise data showed that women voters recorded a 69.04 percent turnout in the first phase of polling on November 6 in 121 assembly seats, while polling percentage among men was 61.56 percent. In the second phase held on November 11, women outgunned men over 10 percent, recording a turnout of 74.56 percent, against the 64.41 percent for men. Overall, Kishanganj district recorded the highest women voter turnout at 88.57 per cent in the Bihar Assembly Election, followed by Katihar (84.13), Supaul (83.69), Purnea (83.66), Araria (78.27), Paschim Champaran (77.74) and Purvi Champaran (77.49). Bihar Assembly Election was held in two phases on November 6 and 11, with the state witnessing a record-breaking voter turnout of 67.13 percent. As per EC data, women's voter turnout was 71.78 percent, while polling percentage among men was 62.98. A total of 7.45 crore electors were eligible to cast their votes in the Bihar polls. While a total of 3.75 crore voters (1.98 crore men and 1.76 crore women) were eligible to exercise their franchise in the first phase, in the second phase, the number of voters was 3.7 crore (1.95 crore men and 1.74 crore women). Counting of votes for Bihar's 243 assembly seats will take place on November 14 (Friday) and results will be declared on the same day.
