AQI better, but lungs still choke on 'poor' air in Pkl | Chandigarh News - The Times of India

Panchkula: Panchkula's air quality remained "poor" even three days after Diwali, though there was a slight improvement in AQI.According to the Central Pollution Control Board's data, the average of the past 24 hours of the AQI on Thursday at 4pm was 251. It was 268 on Wednesday, falling in the same "poor" category. An AQI in the range of 201-300 comes under the poor category. Its possible health impact is "breathing discomfort to most people on prolonged exposure." With no forecast of rain for the next few days, it is expected to take some time for air quality to improve. When the AQI touches anything between 101-200, it falls in the moderate category, which means "breathing discomfort to people with lung, asthma, and heart diseases."It is considered satisfactory when it is between 51-100. It still causes "minor breathing discomfort to sensitive people." The AQI between 0-50 has "minimal impact."The district has one monitoring station in Sector 6. In Panchkula, the timings to burst crackers were between 8pm and 10pm for two days, i.e., on Monday as well as on Tuesday. However, the violations were rampant as the crackers were heard being burst from about 7pm and continued until 1am during the two days. Besides, there was no mechanism to check whether the firecrackers, which were bought and burst, were green or not.
