New Delhi: The Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC) put out a public notice on Sunday and asked the city residents to report any cases of firecrackers being stored, sold, manufactured, or used in Delhi. The decision came after a blanket ban put in place by the Delhi government on December 19, 2024, based on the direction of the Supreme Court. The notice said, "As per the order from the Hon'ble Supreme Court of India dated November 4, 2024, the Delhi government gave directions under Section 5 of the Environment (Protection) Act, 1986, on December 19, 2024. The order puts a complete ban on making, storing, selling (including online sales), and bursting all types of firecrackers in Delhi with immediate effect and for the whole year." Legal action against defaulters The public has been asked to follow these rules. The notice clearly mentioned that anyone caught breaking them would face legal action. People are encouraged to report violations through several platforms. These violations can be reported via the government's noise pollution complaint website - ngms.delhi.gov.in, the 24/7 helpline number 155271, the 'Green Delhi' mobile app, and the emergency number 112 under the Emergency Response Support System (ERSS). A senior official from DPCC said the notice aims to make the public more aware, following the Supreme Court's instructions. Delhi AQI Heavy rains lashed many parts of the national capital on Sunday evening. The showers brought a much needed respite from the hot and humid conditions in the capital. Delhi recorded 16 mm of rainfall in the past 24 hours. Meanwhile, the humidity levels were recorded at a high of 100 per cent at 8.30 am on Monday. The air quality in the national capital remained "satisfactory" on Monday morning. As per the date shared by the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), the Air Quality Index (AQI) in Delhi at 9 am was recorded at 65. The air pollution dipped in the city after heavy rains.
