Amritsar: Reorganised Shiromani Akali Dal's panthic council president Bibi Satwant Kaur has extended her support to Mandeep Singh, the Akali Dal (Waris Punjab De) candidate for the Tarn Taran assembly byelection on Nov 11.Mandeep Singh is the brother of Sandeep Singh, alias Sunny, who is an accused in the murder case of Shiv Sena (Taksali) leader Sudhir Suri. While the Akali Dal (Waris Punjab De) on Tuesday announced Mandeep as its official nominee, uncertainty remains over the banner under which he will contest the byelection. When contacted, Mandeep said he is a panthic candidate and not of a particular political or panthic party. Jasbir Singh Ghumman, chief spokesperson of the religious wing of the reorganised SAD, maintained that Mandeep will contest independently, while Shamsher Singh Padhri, a working committee member of Akali Dal (Waris Punjab De), Amritsar, asserted that he will be the official candidate of their party.
