Tarn Taran: Akali Dal (Waris Punjab De), a political outfit being run by jailed MP Amritpal Singh's father Tarsem Singh, on Sunday announced that it would contest the upcoming Tarn Taran assembly byelection and would try to field Paramjit Kaur Khalra, the widow of rights activist Jaswant Singh Khalra, as a potential candidate."We are in touch with Paramjit Kaur Khalra to field her as the party candidate, but the final decision is yet to be taken," said Tarsem Singh.During the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, Amritpal contested as an independent candidate from Khadoor Sahib parliamentary constituency and polled 4.04 lakh votes, trouncing the candidates of AAP, SAD, Congress and BJP.
