Kolkata, July 11 (UNI) A local Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader was shot dead on Thursday night in the Bhangar area of West Bengal's South 24 Parganas district, triggering tension in the locality. According to the police, the victim, 38-year-old Rajjak Khan, was the president of the TMC's Chaltaberia unit and was a close aide of Canning East MLA Saokat Molla. Khan was returning home after attending a party meeting when unidentified assailants attacked him near Siristala, under the jurisdiction of the Kashipur police station, police said. "A preliminary investigation indicates that Khan was shot thrice and stabbed multiple times, including a fatal neck wound, suggesting a deliberate attempt to ensure his death," a senior police officer said. The attackers reportedly arrived on motorcycles and ambushed Khan in a deserted area near a canal. He was rushed to a hospital, but was declared dead on arrival. No arrest has been made yet, but a police team has been deployed in the area, and the investigation is underway. CCTV footage is being examined, and several locals have been questioned. TMC legislator Saokat Molla held the Indian Secular Front (ISF) responsible for the murder, alleging that ISF-backed criminals orchestrated the attack. "Rajjak was a dedicated party worker.
