Hyderabad: The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has taken suo motu cognizance of media reports about a 35-year-old auto driver's custodial death at Rajendranagar police station on on May 13. The commission issued a notice to Telangana DGP and sought a detailed report within two weeks.The victim was alleged to be having some issues with his wife, who took him to the police station to resolve the matter. After counselling the couple, the man was taken to a room where policemen allegedly beat him with rubber belts. After an hour, when he came out of the station, he started vomiting and collapsed. He was taken to the hospital, where doctors declared him dead. Police, however, denied the allegations and added that they had verified CCTV footage, which showed there were no police excesses.
