Hyderabad: Twelve people were arrested in connection with Wednesday's violent protest against an ethanol factory proposed at Pedda Dhanwada village in Jogulamba district. Sub-inspector D Jagadeeswar said the police used video footage to identify those involved in the unrest.In a video statement on Thursday, the SI said notices were issued to five others. "Protesters came armed with sticks and red chilli powder. They pelted stones at the police and set fire to a container and makeshift shelters meant for workers," he said, warning that more arrests would follow. "We urge villagers to maintain peace and avoid law and order issues."The protest saw hundreds of villagers from 14 nearby villages march to the site. Locals have opposed the ethanol plant for over a year, citing pollution concerns. The agitation turned violent after they spotted vehicles arriving to start work, despite earlier assurances from authorities that the project would not proceed.
