KOLKATA: 18 persons were arrested on Thursday on charge of their alleged involvement in the the gheraoing of seven judicial officers in West Bengal's Malda district over voter deletions during the SIR in the state. They were produced before the court and remanded to police custody for 10 days. The arrested persons include an Indian Secular Front (ISF) candidate, Moulana Shahjahan Ali, contesting from Mothabari. Ali claimed that he had no involvement with the Kaliachak incident. "I was not there on the spot during the trouble. Police arrested me when I was coming back after seeing a musical show in my locality. I became a victim of conspiracy because I am ISF candidate," he told reporters outside the court in Malda.
