New Delhi: Delhi govt has prepared a plan under which Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) bus drivers and conductors will receive regular training, with a focus on ethical values, customer service and safe driving, transport minister Pankaj Singh said on Friday. The move is for improving the public image of DTC buses.The minister mentioned that DTC bus drivers who fail to halt at designated stops or are found speeding will face strict departmental action.Several commuters have complained about the behaviour of DTC bus drivers. There have alleged that the buses often fail to stop at the designated halt properly. In some cases, drivers are seen talking on the phone while driving. The also drive with bus the doors open, commuters have alleged.Delhi govt will soon begin the training sessions, minister Singh said in a statement. The minister warned that if DTC bus drivers fail to halt at the designated stops, or are seen driving rashly, or fail to drive in their lanes and violate traffic rules, strict action will be taken against them.Regular counselling will be part of the awareness drive. Drivers will undergo practical exercises to ensure that they fully understand proper conduct and safe driving techniques, it added.Commuters can lodge complaints on the transport department's helpline, the statement said. CCTV cameras installed in DTC buses will be used to monitor the action and behaviour of the drivers and conductors, it added.By improving ethical conduct and driving practices, govt aims to ensure a safer and a more pleasant travel experience for the passengers, Singh said.The minister has directed department officials to pay attention during the training programmes to ensure that drivers do not engage in speeding under any circumstances and strictly follow lane discipline, the statement said.They will also be strictly instructed to avoid drunk driving, the statement said. The training sessions will include practical tips on ethical behaviour and safe driving techniques, delivered through various modes of communication, it added.
