Vijayawada: Civil supplies minister Nadendla Manohar on Tuesday assured that there is no shortage of petrol, diesel or cooking gas in the state, urging people not to panic or believe rumours about supply disruptions. Addressing a press conference at the civil supplies state office in Kanuru here, the minister said the coalition government has ensured uninterrupted availability of essential fuels across the state. He noted that misinformation circulating on social media had triggered a sudden surge of nearly five lakh LPG bookings, leading to a temporary backlog. However, he clarified that supply operations have stabilised, with around 2.7 lakh cylinders currently being delivered without disruption. Manohar said the government is reviewing fuel supply and demand on a daily basis in coordination with dealers and officials. He emphasised that there are no systemic issues in the supply chain. Out of 4,510 retail fuel outlets across the state, only four have reported minor disruptions due to individual dealers' credit-related issues. Highlighting consumption trends, the minister said the state's daily average usage stands at 7,900 kilolitres of petrol and 20,000 kilolitres of diesel. To meet demand, diesel supply has been increased by 8 per cent and petrol by 2.4 per cent. He advised the public against panic buying or rushing to fill full tanks, assuring that adequate stocks are available. The minister also underlined that LPG cylinder deliveries are being carried out through a 100 per cent OTP-based system, enabling doorstep delivery without requiring consumers to visit gas agencies. He added that re-booking is permitted only after 25 days in urban areas and 45 days in rural areas, in line with central government norms. For grievances, consumers can contact the 1967 call centre. The minister said the quota for non-domestic (commercial) LPG cylinders has been increased from 10 per cent to 70 per cent, improving availability for hotels, restaurants, and hospitals. He also revealed that 146 gas agencies involved in black marketing and illegal stocking have been booked, with 4,285 cylinders seized. The minister said the government is closely monitoring the situation in coordination with oil companies and is prepared to tackle any challenges arising from global developments, including conflicts in the Gulf region. He further stated that steps are being taken to expand piped natural gas (PNG) supply in eligible areas. The government aims to shift one lakh consumers to PNG within three months, with a long-term target of reaching 10 lakh users. Citizens were encouraged to consider switching from LPG to PNG where pipeline infrastructure is available.
