Act Against Arbitrary Fee Hikes By Pvt Schools: Itoo - Kashmir Observer

Srinagar- The government on Monday directed the Jammu and Kashmir Board of School Education to take strict action against private schools found indulging in arbitrary fee hikes or violating prescribed norms. The directions were issued by Education Minister Sakeena Itoo while chairing a review meeting at the Civil Secretariat to assess the Board's performance, administrative functioning, and ongoing academic reforms, an official spokesperson said. During the meeting, the minister reviewed JKBOSE's preparedness for upcoming examinations, timely declaration of results, implementation of curriculum, and the effectiveness of grievance redressal mechanisms. Expressing concern over complaints of unjustified fee increases by certain private institutions, Itoo called for constant monitoring and regular inspections. "Take firm action against private schools indulging in arbitrary fee hikes and found violating prescribed norms or imposing unjustified financial burdens on parents," she said. She directed the formation of joint committees comprising officials from the School Education Department and JKBOSE to carry out regular inspections of private schools across Jammu and Kashmir, including those affiliated with Central Board of Secondary Education. "Schools must function with responsibility and transparency. Any attempt to exploit students or parents through unauthorized fee structures will not be tolerated," the minister asserted, stressing the need for strict enforcement of existing regulations. Itoo also called for stronger coordination between district education authorities and regulatory bodies to ensure compliance with government guidelines. Emphasising systemic improvements, she underlined the importance of establishing a robust feedback and grievance redressal mechanism to address concerns and improve service delivery. The minister further stressed the adoption of technology-driven solutions to enhance operational transparency and streamline coordination between schools and JKBOSE.
