Bhubaneswar: A delegation led by Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan Tuesday met Union Minister for Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution Pralhad Joshi, urging the Centre to raise Odisha's parboiled rice evacuation quota under the Central Pool from 20 lakh metric tonnes (LMT) to 25 LMT. In a formal letter submitted to Joshi, Pradhan expressed gratitude to the Centre for enhancing Odisha's paddy procurement target from 50 LMT to 58 LMT for the Kharif Marketing Season (KMS) 2024-25, covering both Kharif and Rabi crops. He said the upward revision had significantly boosted the confidence of farmers across the state and ensured smooth procurement operations. Highlighting Odisha's status as one of the country's leading producers of parboiled rice, Pradhan noted that procurement activities for KMS 2025-26 have already begun in early-harvesting districts.
