New Delhi, Dec 15 (UNI) In view of the prevailing severe air pollution and persistently high Air Quality Index (AQI) levels, the Delhi Government has decided to discontinue physical classes for students from Nursery to Class 5 with immediate effect and until further orders. According to directions issued by the Directorate of Education, all government, government-aided and unaided private recognised schools in Delhi will conduct classes for students from Nursery to Class V exclusively in online mode during this period. The decision has been taken as a precautionary measure to safeguard the health of young children, who are particularly vulnerable to the adverse effects of air pollution. Emphasising the government's priority towards child safety, Delhi Education Minister Ashish Sood said the health and well-being of children remains the top concern of the government. He stated that in view of the hazardous AQI levels in the national capital, physical classes for students up to Class 5 have been suspended and shifted to online mode as a preventive and necessary step. The situation is being closely monitored, and further decisions will be taken in the best interest of students, he added. It has been clarified that classes beyond Class 5 will continue to function as per the existing directions issued on December 13, 2025. Schools have been instructed to adhere strictly to the guidelines and ensure smooth implementation of the revised arrangements. The Education Minister further said that all heads of schools have been directed to ensure immediate compliance and to inform parents and guardians promptly about the change in mode of classes. Deputy Directors of Education at the zonal and district levels have also been instructed to closely monitor the implementation and address any issues to ensure seamless continuity of education. On Monday, Delhi residents woke up to a dense blanket of smog as air quality in the national capital remained at hazardous levels. The 24-hour average AQI for Delhi stood at 427 in the 'severe' category, showing a slight improvement from Saturday's readings, which had crossed the 450 mark and entered the 'severe plus' category. Earlier, the Delhi government had directed schools across the city to switch to hybrid mode for students up to Classes 9 and 11 as pollution levels spiked in the city, following the CAQM advisory. The option to attend classes online has been left to students and parents, read the official order. Schools have been asked to immediately convey this information to parents. The order will remain in force until further instructions. Classes 10 and 12 will continue in offline mode as usual.

New Delhi, Jun 6 (PTI) The Delhi government has rolled out guidelines for tree officers to enforce certain sections of the Delhi Preservation of Trees Act (DPTA), 1994, officials said.
