MALE Drones: India is continuously enhancing its defence capabilities to be a step ahead of Pakistan and China. The country's defence major Larsen & Toubro has joined hands with the United States-based General Atomics to build Medium-Altitude Long-Endurance (MALE) drones. These drones will be built in India. Announcing the strategic partnership, Larsen & Toubro (L&T) and US-based General Atomics Aeronautical Systems (GA-ASI) stated that this partnership offers India an opportunity to manufacture unmanned drones indigenously. Under this deal, L&T will place its bid in the upcoming 87 MALE RPAS programme of Defence Ministry. The Indian company will be the prime partner. This partnership will initiate the production of GA-ASI's MQ-series RPAS. These drones are widely operational across the world and are capable of doing surveillance and strike missions. The L&T and General Atomics partnership is a significant milestone in enhancing India's defence capabilities. It will also boost India's pursuit of a self-reliant defence ecosystem, further strengthening India and America's defence collaboration.
