Pune: Frustrated by a 27-year wait for judgment in a civil suit, a 61-year-old man jumped to his death from the new building of the Shivajinagar court on Wednesday, police said.Namdev Yashwant Jadhav was a resident of Wadki on Pune-Saswad road, some 30km from Pune. Senior inspector Mahesh Bolkotgi of the Shivajinagar police told TOI that they found a suicide note carrying Jadhav's signature. "It stated that Jadhav had, in 1997, filed a suit in the civil court after his father gifted family land to his brothers and some other relatives, but left him out. The note added that while Jadhav was awaiting judgment, his brothers and other relatives had constructed houses on the land and were doing well. The note stated that he was taking the extreme step because he had no place to stay and nothing was going in his favour, including the case proceedings," Bolkotgi added.Police said around 11.45am, Jadhav reached the court's premises and went up to the terrace on the fourth floor -- an area used by lawyers to eat lunch or drink tea. "At that time, the terrace was empty. Some onlookers told us that Jadhav climbed the railings and jumped off the terrace. He hit an iron bar on the second floor and fell to the ground on his head," Bolkotgi said. Some police personnel took him to Sassoon General Hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival. "We do not know the exact details of the civil case. We have contacted his brothers and will record their statements. We will check if he visited the court on Wednesday for any hearing of the case. We will soon check details of the case from the court," the officer said. The police recorded the statement of Jadhav's son. "He told us that Jadhav had met with an accident around 15 years ago. He left home this March and would rarely visit the family. His son said the family was unaware of where he was staying," Bolkotgi said.On Feb 8, a 28-year-old man from Pashan had died by suicide on the Shivajinagar court premises following an argument with his wife.
