Trichy: The govt on Saturday placed under suspension M Sundaresan, deputy superintendent of police of prohibition enforcement wing in Mayiladuthurai, two days after he claimed at a news meet that his official vehicle was withdrawn to torment him for his 'sincerity.' On July 17, he had walked from his house to his office after the press meet, saying he was forced to do so.The departmental inquiry report submitted by Thanjavur range DIG Ziaul Haque to the IG central zone on Friday found fault with the press meets Sundaresan held in violation of the code of conduct for govt servants, as only the commissioner of a city or the superintendent of police of a district can convene press meets. The DIG said the DSP, instead of approaching his senior officers with his grievances, questioned the SP's authority and exhibited sheer indiscipline. Thus he recommended that the DSP be suspended immediately. After IG Joshi Nirmal Kumar submitted the report to the director general of police (DGP), additional chief secretary Dheeraj Kumar ordered the suspension. Police had claimed that the department took back the DSP's vehicle for 'important purposes' on July 11, including for bandobast of chief minister M K Stalin's visit. He was given an alternate vehicle, which he surrendered citing its 'inferior' features. In his inquiry report, which found its way to the media, DIG Ziaul Haque observed that a total of 44 vehicles were withdrawn, including that of DSP M Sundaresan, for bandobast duties. However, Sundaresan deliberately tried to portray himself as a victim of injustice. Citing staff at Mayiladuthurai PEW and others who worked with DSP Sundaresan, the report claimed that Sundaresan threatened and abused a woman police inspector to the point of considering suicide, which was prevented by her colleagues. Haque also observed that Sundaresan exerted undue influence on a sub-inspector to install an air-conditioner and a printer at his office. In yet another press meet on Saturday, Sundaresan rubbished the DIG's claims as an attempt to damage his reputation.
