Hyderabad: A two-and-a-half-year-old boy who was initially reported missing from the Bandlaguda area on Saturday was later found to have been murdered by his father. The accused, subsequently, dumped the child's body in River Musi. Efforts to locate the body remained unsuccessful till late on Sunday. The incident came to light when a couple Mohammed Akbar and Sana Begum approached Bandlaguda police on Saturday morning claiming that the younger of their two sons -- Mohammed Anas -- was missing. Sana, a contract employee at Niloufer Hospital, told the police she discovered this on returning home after night shift. Since her husband Akbar, a vegetable vendor by profession, also had no clue about the child's whereabouts, they wanted to file a missing person's complaint. Though Akbar was the only one at home when the child went missing, police found his responses inconsistent during questioning. "When we verified Akbar's call data records it was not consistent with what he told us initially. We then checked CCTVs, which showed him using a bike and carrying a bag in the morning before his wife came home," a police official said. That raised police's suspicion and they interrogated him further on Saturday evening. That's when the father confessed to the crime."In his statement, Akbar admitted that he smothered the boy to death using a pillow. Later, he stuffed the child's body into a sack, travelled with it from Bandlaguda to Puranapul and then flung into the Musi," R Devender, inspector, Bandlaguda told TOI. The murder and disposal of the body occurred before Sana returned home in the morning.According to the accused, the boy was suffering from an heart ailment which led to frequent arguments between the couple. "Though the boy was given treatment it did not cure the ailment. The parents used to have frequent quarrels over availing better treatment for him. Akbar said he was frustrated with it and, therefore, decided to eliminate the child," a police official added. Based on his confession, police deployed the disaster response force and other units late on Saturday night in an attempt to recover the body. "We are yet to retrieve the body. But we have registered a criminal case against Akbar and are altering the missing person's report to murder and screening of evidence," the police said. No arrests have been made so far.
