Heavy rain continues to batter districts across Telangana | Hyderabad News - The Times of India

Hyderabad: Heavy rain lashed several districts across the state, causing streams and lakes to overflow and damaging roads, thereby disrupting traffic movement.The Edupayala Vanadurga Temple in Medak district was closed once again by the temple authorities on Saturday after floodwaters entered the temple premises. In Jayashankar Bhupalpally district, around 100 sheep were killed after being struck by lightning on Sept 11 near Peddapapet village in Mahadevpur mandal. The incident occurred when the shepherds, returning from grazing in a nearby forest, were struck by lightning near the Godavari riverbank.Meanwhile, the body of a 45-year-old man, T Krishna, who was swept away in a stream at Wyra in Khammam district, was recovered on Friday. Krishna, a resident of Chokkapatlapalam village in Errapalem mandal, had gone for swimming in the river when he was carried away by the current. His body was later found within the Madhira municipality limits.During the 24-hour period ending at 8.30 am on Saturday, several parts of Telangana received heavy rainfall. The highest rainfall of 98.0 mm was recorded at Palmela mandal in Jayashankar Bhupalpally district. In Nizamabad district, multiple mandals received heavy showers, including Sirkonda (95 mm), Jakranpalle (88 mm), Dharpalle (66 mm), Rudrur (65 mm), and Navipet (56 mm).In Mancherial district, Nennal received 93 mm of rainfall, Mandamarri (66 mm), and Kasipet (56 mm). Kollapur mandal in Nagarkurnool district recorded 90 mm of rainfall.According to the Telangana Development Planning Society, Venkatapuram mandal in Mulugu district recorded the highest rainfall of 106 mm. In Bhadradri Kothagudem district, Annapureddypally recorded 81 mm of rainfall, Manuguru (79 mm), the GM Office at Manuguru (68 mm), and Dummapeta (68 mm). In the Khammam district, Kalluru recorded 70 mm of rainfall and Enkuru (67 mm).Meanwhile, the IMD predicted widespread rainfall across the state on Sunday. Light to moderate rain or thundershowers are very likely at most places, with heavy rainfall expected at isolated locations in Rajanna Sircilla, Karimnagar, Mulugu, Bhadradri Kothagudem, and Kamareddy districts. Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds reaching speeds of 30-40 kmph are expected at isolated places in all districts of Telangana.
