Chandigarh, Sep 1 (UNI) Severe flooding across Punjab has impacted 1,044 villages in 12 districts, affecting 2,56,107 people and resulting in 29 fatalities, said Punjab Revenue, Rehabilitation, and Disaster Management Minister Hardeep Singh Mundian. The state government is working relentlessly to provide relief and support to those affected by the unprecedented rainfall. Mass Evacuations and Relief Operations According to Minister Mundian, 15,688 people have been evacuated from flood-affected areas, with significant efforts in Gurdaspur (5,549), Ferozepur (3,321), Fazilka (2,049), Amritsar (1,700), Pathankot (1,139), and Hoshiarpur (1,052). The state has set up 129 relief camps, currently sheltering 7,144 individuals, with Ferozepur (3,987), Fazilka (1,201), and Hoshiarpur (478) reporting the highest numbers. District authorities are ensuring food, medical care, and essential supplies at these camps. The floods have affected 2,56,107 people, with Gurdaspur bearing the brunt (1,45,000), followed by Amritsar (35,000), Ferozepur (24,015), and Fazilka (21,562). The disaster has claimed 29 lives across districts, including Pathankot (6), Amritsar (3), Hoshiarpur (3), and Ludhiana (3), with three individuals still missing in Pathankot. Agricultural damage spans 94,061 hectares, with major losses in Amritsar (23,000 hectares), Mansa (17,005 hectares), Kapurthala (14,934 hectares), and Tarn Taran (11,883 hectares). Assessments for livestock and infrastructure losses are pending, with detailed reports expected post-flood recession. Rescue operations involve 20 NDRF teams, 10 Army columns, 35 helicopters from the Indian Air Force and Army, and 114 boats. The Border Security Force is also assisting on the ground.
