Surat: Two workers are missing while 22 others suffered injuries after a textile dyeing unit in Jolva of Surat district was engulfed in flames on Monday following a blast in a drum dryer. The injured, some with up to 40% burns, have been admitted to hospital for treatment.The missing workers have been identified as Dilip and Roshan. Search operations inside the dyeing unit could not be carried out immediately due to the raging fire. The blaze broke out at Santosh Dyeing Mill around 3:15pm after the explosion, and with large quantities of fabric and oil stored inside, it spread rapidly through the premises.A total of 15 fire tenders were pressed into service to contain the flames, and firefighting operations continued at the time of reporting. Fire teams managed to prevent the flames from spreading to nearby dyeing units. Officials said the blaze would be controlled by night, after which search operations inside the mill could begin."The fire is still raging, and only once it is brought under control can the search for the missing workers begin," said Rajesh Gadhiya, superintendent of police, Surat.Officials from the Directorate of Industrial Health and Safety (DISH) will conduct an inquiry to ascertain the cause of the incident, while the Gujarat Pollution Control Board (GPCB) has also launched an investigation and will submit a report for further action.Meanwhile, police deployed additional bandobast to regulate traffic on National Highway 48, as the unit's proximity to the highway initially caused a major jam.
