A 50-year-old man was killed and his daughter injured after a huge tree fell on their motorcycle in Southeast Delhi's Kalkaji during heavy rain on Thursday morning, police said. The incident took place at 9.50 am. "An old roadside Neem tree suddenly fell in front of the HDFC Bank near Paras Chowk in Kalkaji. As a result, two individuals riding a motorcycle -- Sudhir Kumar and his daughter Priya (22) -- were trapped beneath the fallen tree," said police. The impact left both of them critically injured and they were rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment. The man died during treatment at AIIMS Trauma Centre. A hydraulic crane was deployed to remove the tree and clear the road, they said. Municipal authorities have been alerted to assess the damage and carry out necessary pruning in the area to prevent further incidents, the officials added. Kindly plan your journey accordingly." Another advisory said there is waterlogging at GTK Depot, Jahangirpuri, and Adarsh Nagar, and that traffic on the Old GT Road is likely to be severely affected. Commuters are advised to avoid taking the old GT Road. The traffic advisory also noted: "Due to ongoing rain causing waterlogging at Gali No. 10, New Rohtak Road, Anand Parbat, traffic is affected in both the carriageways from Kamal T-Point towards Punjabi Bagh and vice versa. Road users are advised to take an alternate route towards Sarai Rohilla. Commuters heading towards Kamal T-Point may take a U-Turn from Ashok Main Park Metro Station towards Punjabi Bagh." Traffic officials also said some calls of trees falling were received, owing to which vehicular movement was affected; earthmovers had to be roped to clear the roads.
