Jamshedpur: A Maoist area commander was gunned down by security forces in the Saranda forest area of West Singhbhum district on Wednesday, police said in a statement.The deceased extremist was identified as Arun alias Nilesh Makdam, a native of Konta police station limits in Sukma district of Chhattisgarh. Accused in six cases of the Arms Act, the UAPA Act, the CLA Act, besides BNS sections, Arun was wanted by the police of six police stations in the district since 2019, it added."We recieved inputs that around 12 area commanders, including Ravi Sardar, Jaikant, Arun, Sandeep, Amit Munda, and Bhubaneshwar, along with their squad members were hiding in the Dugunia-Posiata-Tumbagada hilly forest stretch under the Goilkera police station limits and planning subversive activities in Kolhan division on Independence Day. Local police, with the CRPF 209 Battalion, launched a combing operation in the area on August 12," the statement read."On August 13 around 6am, the ultras indiscriminately fired at the security forces from behind the bushes, forcing the forces to retaliate in defence.
