WARANGAL: Five members of the banned CPI (Maoist) party, including two women, surrendered to Superintendent of Police Shabarish on Monday as part of the "Poru Kanna Ooru Minna - Mana Ooriki Tirigi Randi" initiative, jointly undertaken by Mulugu Police and the CRPF Battalion in Mulugu district. SP Shabarish told the media that among the five was Area Committee Member Shyamala Rajesh, alias Itha (22). The others are Kadthi Iduma (20) from Sukma district; and three from Bijapur district: Uke Jogi (18), a female Maoist; Badishey Bheema, alias Mahesh (21); and Muchaki Jogi (16), a female minor. Each surrendered member received an immediate payment of ₹25,000. The remaining ₹6,75,000 will be credited to their bank accounts by cheque once their Aadhaar and bank details are verified, the SP said. Enticed by rehabilitation benefits offered by the Telangana government and police, several Maoist cadres, including senior leaders, are choosing to abandon Naxalism and surrender to Mulugu Police in pursuit of a peaceful life. Since January 2025, a total of 73 Maoist members of various ranks have laid down arms before Mulugu Police and rejoined mainstream society. This tally includes 3 Divisional and Central Committee Members, 10 Area Committee Members, 22 Platoon Members, 29 militia members, 1 Regional Party Committee member, 2 District Area Karyakarta Members, and 6 Central Novitiate Members.
