RAIPUR: Security forces have gunned down seven Maoists in Abujhmarh forests of Bastar region, two days before Union Home Minister Amit Shah is scheduled to visit the state. Taking the Maoist death toll to 220 this year, chief minister Vishnu Deo Sai saluted the valour of security personnel stating that as per preliminary information, a central committee member of Maoists is among those killed. Around 206 Maoists were killed in past five years while the state has recorded 217 killings within a year in Bastar and Dhamtari district, since BJP came to power. Chief minister Sai said that seven Maoists have been killed in an encounter with security forces in South Abujhmarh region this morning. "This is undoubtedly a huge success for the security forces. I salute and congratulate all the security officers and personnel involved in this operation for their bravery. Our fight will continue until Naxalism is eradicated," CM Sai said. Deputy chief minister Vijay Sharma who also hold Home department stated, "Based on the inputs, our security forces trace the presence and movement of Maoists using drones, and Maoists have no other way now, either they have to surrender or action will be taken against them" Police said that joint security forces from four districts of Bastar division had launched an anti-Naxal operation in the wee hours on Thursday, leading to a heavy encounter that's still going on. Over a thousand troops of District Reserve Guards, Special Task Force, Central Reserve Police Force marched from camps of Narayanpur, Dantewada, Jagdalpur and Kondagaon and launched an anti-Naxal operation around 3 am on Thursday. An encounter broke out between security forces and Maoists in Abujhmarh forests. According to a note issued by Narayanpur SP Prabhat Singh, seven Maoists have been killed and their bodies recovered from the encounter site, while the gun-battle continues with security forces pushing them to the brink. While the search has already been intensified across Bastar, with the upcoming visit of Amit Shah, Maoists in Bijapur have been maintaining a front foot by killing civilians in consecutive attacks in past one week. Three BJP workers and two women have been recently murdered by Maoists for their association with BJP and police respectively. Minister Sharma said, "We are making it very clear that the 'Red Terror' should end from Bastar in coming years and our govt has vowed to take development related to schools, hospitals, electricity, Anganwadi, road, drinking water, mobile tower should reach to all villages in Bastar."
