Bhubaneswar: Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) on Friday offered a formal apology for posting photographs of Puri Jagannath Temple's interior on its X platform. In a letter to Shree Jagannath Temple Administration, ASI pointed out that the error was unintentional.The ASI had sparked a controversy on Monday after sharing images of the shrine's interior while providing information about the recently completed restoration of the Ratna Bhandar (treasury). The ASI had removed the photographs following the backlash."Though inadvertent, the ASI sincerely apologises for the hurt caused to the people at large, by the mentioned post. The said post with pictures was deleted as soon as the text message from the temple committee was received," ASI director general (DG) Yadubir Singh Rawat's letter to SJTA's chief administrator Arabinda Kumar Padhee stated.Rawat's response came following Padhee's letter to the ASI on Tuesday, highlighting widespread concerns following the circulation of photos from the shrine's interior."I need to inform you that the entire matter arose because of the interpretation of the term "interior". The ASI media team did not know that in case of Shree Jagannath Puri Temple premise, interior means the premises within the Prakara wall. However, the misconception was rectified, and the photographs were instantly deleted," Rawat wrote.
