Gurgaon: After seeing sporadic showers over the past couple of days, the city is likely to witness a surge in rainfall activity over the coming days, with heavy rainfall expected in parts of the state early next week.While only light rain is expected at isolated places during the next 24 hours, India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning of heavy rainfall between July 20 and 22 across northern, eastern and southern Haryana.The intensity of rain is expected to peak on Monday and Tuesday, bringing with it the possibility of localised flooding and disruption in low-lying areas."Light to moderate rain is expected at several places starting from July 20, gradually increasing in both spread and intensity. Isolated places may receive heavy showers," said a senior IMD official.According to IMD, this is due to the presence of an active monsoon trough coupled with a depression over northwest and adjoining northeast Rajasthan. Moreover, a fresh western disturbance in the middle tropospheric levels is likely to enhance the intensity of rainfall across the region.In July so far, the city has seen abundant rainfall. As much as 182.2mm rainfall has been recorded this month, which is 69% above the normal of 108.1mm. In contrast, July last year ended with a 47% deficit, receiving only 93.1mm of rain against a normal of 175.4mm.The overall monsoon in 2023, however, was stronger, recording 217.2mm of rainfall -- a surplus of 24% from the normal. In 2022, July saw 208.4mm of rain, which was a surplus of 19%. With more rain on the horizon, the monsoon tally for this month is likely to increase further.Meanwhile, the city recorded a minimum temperature of 26.2 degrees Celsius on Saturday, marginally higher than the previous day's 25.7 degrees Celsius. With a clear sky, the daytime temperature soared to 32.5 degrees Celsius, up from 31.4 degrees Celsius on Friday.
