Fake imported liquor racket busted in Vadodara, bootlegger held | Vadodara News - Times of India

Vadodara: The Prevention of Crime Branch (PCB) of the city police busted a racket involving the sale of cheap liquor disguised as premium imported brands. During a raid, officials seized both filled and empty bottles of high-end liquor, exposing a bootlegging operation run from a residential apartment.Acting on a tip-off, the PCB raided the residence of Azim Memon, located in Patel Falia of the Hathikhana area. Memon, a known bootlegger with six prior offences registered against him, was found running the counterfeit liquor operation from his flat.The raid led to the seizure of 17 filled liquor bottles, 90 empty branded bottles, five jerrycans containing red-coloured liquor, and 16 bottles of essence used to mimic the taste of original alcohol. During interrogation, Memon confessed to refilling used bottles with diluted cheap liquor sourced from Daman, adding artificial flavours to make it resemble expensive liquor.The bottles were reportedly procured from local scrap dealers, cleaned, and then filled with the concoction before being sold to unsuspecting customers as imported alcohol.
