Patna: The state govt will soon recruit 64,000 additional constables for the Bihar Police, CM Nitish Kumar announced on Saturday after handing out appointment letters to 21,391 newly inducted constables, including a large number of women."Our govt introduced 35% reservation for women in the state police back in 2013. A total of 55,000 posts are being filled through promotions. The recruitment process for another 64,000 posts is underway," Nitish said.He praised the performance of women in the force, drawing applause from the audience, and added that their number had now reached 36,000, the highest among any state police force in the country.The CM said recruitment for 42,609 constables had already begun while the process to fill 19,838 posts was on. The exam for these is scheduled next month. He urged officials to begin recruitment for the remaining posts without delay.The target, Nitish said, is to raise the total police strength to 2.29 lakh. "When we came to power in 2005, there were only 42,481 personnel in Bihar Police. Since 2006, we have increased this number to 1.10 lakh to improve law and order," he said.Expressing displeasure over delays, he asked senior police and govt officials to expedite the recruitment process. "I will be pleased if you complete it as soon as possible," Nitish told them.The newly appointed constables took an oath to abstain from alcohol and to support the enforcement of Bihar's liquor prohibition law.Deputy CMs Samrat Choudhary and Vijay Kumar Sinha, parliamentary affairs minister Vijay Kumar Choudhary, energy minister Bijendra Prasad Yadav and DGP Vinay Kumar were present.Minister Vijay Kumar Choudhary said the recruitment drive reflects the govt's commitment to employment under Nitish's leadership.
