Chaos prevails at Chorao jetty as Ro-Ro ferry ops begin

Panaji : Chaos prevailed at the Chorao jetty on Tuesday morning as Ro-Ro ferryboats began operations, with long queues of vehicles waiting to cross. Alongside the two Ro-Ro ferryboats, the River Navigation Department (RND) also deployed two conventional ferryboats on the Ribandar-Chorao route to ease the transition. RND Minister Subhash Phal Dessai called for discipline while entering the ferry boat. "Police personnel will be deployed to manage the traffic. These are teething problems which will be resolved soon," he said. An RND official said that as the concept of Ro-Ro ferryboats is new and the staff is also new, they "have decided to deploy two conventional ferryboats for the next two days so that people do not face any inconvenience". A commuter said that both the Ro-Ro ferryboats were on Chorao side at the same time. "The Department also pressed conventional ferryboats into service but it did not help in any way," said the commuter.
