Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Drivers' Association has called off its cease-work strike, which began on July 8, secretary Manas Debata announced on Sunday. The strike had crippled bus and other transport services across the state until Saturday. Association members said they called off the strike as President Droupadi Murmu will be on a two-day Odisha visit from Monday.The association was protesting for the fulfilment of their seven-point charter of demands, which included the inclusion of autorickshaw drivers in the Odisha Motor Transport Drivers and Workers' Welfare Board and a stipend for elderly drivers. While the govt managed the supply of fuel and essential commodities from Thursday, the private bus owners' association plied their vehicles from Saturday."The association did not stop any transport vehicles and continued the protest at the district level through dharnas. We had a meeting late Saturday night to decide the course of action and finally called off the strike," said Debata.Debata said they held a four-hour meeting with transport minister Bibhuti Bhusan Jena on Tuesday night. Jena said detailed discussion was held on the issues of drivers and he managed to address their concerns.
