Jamshedpur: A new proposal for the operation of city buses will soon be submitted to the Urban Development Department, after a year and a half of discussions. The proposal, which has faced several challenges and revisions, is aimed at improving public transportation in the city. The Urban Development Department raised concerns about multiple errors in the earlier proposal and requested a revised version to ensure the smooth operation of the city buses. In 2010, 50 buses were introduced under the Jawahar Lal Renewal Urban Mission, but their condition deteriorated within a few years due to a lack of maintenance. "Some errors have been found in the proposal regarding city buses. As per the department's instructions, after correcting some points, the proposal will be sent to the department again," said Krishna Kumar, Deputy Municipal Commissioner, JNAC. The revised proposal will address critical aspects such as bus routes and fare rates, with a focus on improving the daily commute of the 25,000 people who currently rely on buses. At present, more than 90 buses are operational in the city, but this number is insufficient. In addition, rural areas will be included in the proposal to improve connectivity between rural and urban regions. This would allow workers in the city to return home easily after a long day of work. A new transport unit will also be set up within JNAC to independently manage the city buses. This initiative will require a separate process for implementation.
