Srinagar, July 7: In a remarkable show of community spirit and humanitarian service, 215 units of blood were donated on the occasion of Youm-e-Ashura during a camp organised by the Helping Hands Care Foundation J&K, at Alamgari Bazar, Srinagar.The blood donation drive, held in collaboration with the Blood Bank of Lal Ded Hospital, coincided with the Ashura procession, which marks the solemn remembrance of the martyrdom of Imam Hussain (AS), the grandson of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and his companions at Karbala.Addressing the donors and volunteers, the foundation's patron, Ali Mohammad Kuthoo (Mohd Aliyas), congratulated participants for their noble contribution. "Every blood donor is a lifesaver. It not only provides a lifeline to those in urgent need but also offers health benefits to the donor," he said. He also stressed the importance of maintaining well-equipped blood banks, describing them as "critical assets in times of emergency." Adil Hussain, a young donor, said that donating blood in memory of Hazrat Imam Hussain (AS) gives solace and level of satisfaction. "Who knows, my blood can save someone's life tomorrow. What best reward can I get for donating just one point of blood," he said.Nasir Hussain, President of the Helping Hands Care Foundation and the event's chief organiser, highlighted the significance of blood donation as a moral and social responsibility. "As human beings, it is our duty to help one another. Blood donation is a simple act that can save lives," he said, appealing to more people to become regular donors. He extended heartfelt thanks to several dignitaries and institutions whose support made the event possible, including-Dr Mohammad Muzaffar Jan, Medical Superintendent, Lal Ded Hospital, Dr Maimoona Gul, Deputy Medical Superintendent, Dr Shadan Akhter, Blood Bank Officer and Transfusion Specialist Masood Ahmad Bhat, In-charge, Blood Bank Lal Ded Hospital SHO Police Station Zadibal Volunteers, media representatives and members of the All Jammu and Kashmir Shia Association.
