Thane: Spike In Tree Fall Incidents During Monsoon Prompts RDMC To Issue Advisory

Thane: The city has witnessed a spike in tree fall incidents during the ongoing monsoon season, prompting the Regional Disaster Management Cell (RDMC) to advise vehicle owners to avoid parking under precarious trees during heavy rainfall. On Wednesday, multiple incidents were reported in and around Ghantali Maidan Road, Naupada, where tree branches fell on parked vehicles, causing significant damage. On July 3, a large tree collapsed onto two shops, damaging their roofs. Fortunately, no casualties were reported. RDMC teams arrived promptly with a pickup vehicle and used tools to cut and remove the fallen tree. In a separate incident on the same day, another tree fell on a car and a motorcycle, damaging both. The RDMC responded with an emergency vehicle and cleared the fallen branches. Later that day, a tree collapsed on a house in Bhaskar Colony, Naupada, breaking its roof. No injuries were reported. On July 4, a tree fell on the compound wall of the Chandiwala Complex, damaging an adjacent room, its roof, and a water pipeline. RDMC personnel arrived quickly to clear the debris and branches. Yasin Tadvi, chief of the RDMC, confirmed that six tree-related incidents were recorded -- three full tree collapses, several falling branches, and one tree identified as being in a dangerous condition. According to RDMC officials, Thane has received a total of 898.13 mm of rainfall so far this monsoon. As of Friday, 32.98 mm of rainfall had been recorded for the day.
