Telangana govt constitutes expert panel to probe explosion in Sigachi Industries in Sangareddy

Hyderabad, July 2 (UNI) The Telangana government has constituted a four-member expert committee to investigate Monday's major explosion in Sigachi Industries in Pashamylaram of Sangareddy district in which 38 persons were killed and several others injured. The Director of Factories, Hyderabad, has reported that a major explosion occurred in the Sigachi Industries at around 0920 hours on June 30, 2025, where Microcrystalline Cellulose powder is being manufactured, to be used in tablets and capsules as binding agent, said Chief Secretary K Ramakrishna Rao in a G.O issued here today. At the time of incident, 143 persons were there inside the factory premises, with the explosion resulting in the death of 38 persons and leaving several persons injured. After careful examination of the matter, the Government constituted with a four-member expert committee chaired by Dr B Venkateswar Rao, Emeritus Scientist, CSIR-IICT, to identify the causes, establish reasons, the events that led to the major explosion, assess compliance with safety protocols and recommend measures to prevent such tragedies in the future, the GO stated. The committee includes Dr T Prathap Kumar, Chief Scientist, CSIR-IICT, Dr Surya Narayana, Retired Scientists, CSIR-CLRI, Chennai and Dr Santosh Ghuge, Safety officer, CSIR-NCL, Pune. The committee has been directed to submit a detailed report, including specific recommendations, within one month.
