Hyderabad, Sep 13 (UNI) The Telangana Government has decided to put forth strong arguments before the Krishna Water Dispute Tribunal (KWDT -2) for its rightful share of 904 TMC of water of the Krishan river waters. The Chief Minister has ordered legal experts and irrigation engineering officials to make strong arguments before the Tribunal during the three-day hearing at New Delhi from September 23, ensuring Telangana gets its fair share of Krishna waters. Asserting that Telangana should not lose even a single drop of water share in the assured water, surplus and also flood waters in Krishna, the Chief Minister said that the state deserved a fair share of 904 TMC of water of Krishna. The officials were instructed to immediately prepare all the necessary evidence and provide it to the legal experts to make arguments before the tribunal and protect the state's interests. At a high level review of the state's preparedness for arguments before the tribunal, the Chief minister directed state Irrigation Minister Uttam Kumar Reddy and the official team to participate in the hearing of the Tribunal. The Chief minister made several suggestions to the legal experts including submitting all relevant evidence to the tribunal on the "injustice" meted to the Telangana state in the Krishna waters and ensuring the state gets its due share of water. All the projects planned, incomplete projects, pending and neglected projects in the erstwhile united Andhra Pradesh and till the date with GOs, memos, and official documents should be submitted to the tribunal, the CM directed. The high level meeting also discussed how the previous government did "irreparable injustice" to the state by accepting 512 TMC of water for AP and agreeing to a share of only 299 TMC for Telangana. Legal experts briefed the CM that AP has brought the issue of the former Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao's agreement for a share of only 299 TMC before the tribunal. The CM noted that Telangana's interests were ignored in the erstwhile AP, and also during the 10 years BRS rule in the allocation of Krishna waters as well as utilization of available waters. " KCR government failed miserably in achieving the legally due share of water in Krishna," the Chief Minister said, adding that as a result the projects on Krishna -Palamuru Rangareddy to Dindi projects -- have been put on hold. The CM criticized KCR for committing a "grave betrayal" in the matter of water sharing. The CM made it clear that Telangana deserved to avail 904 TMC of water according to the legal principles of distribution of water sharing along with the rights of the lower riparian states, and the arguments should be made accordingly. He also ordered the officials and legal experts to "expose the negligence" and indifference of the previous government in diverting Krishna water by AP illegally before the tribunal during the arguments. The CM also warned that "illegal diversion" of Krishna water by AP posed a threat of the closure of hydroelectric projects at Srisailam, Nagarjunasagar and Pulichintala. "Water crisis due to illegal diversion will create a big trouble to generate hydel power at low cost," the CM said, adding that all such important issues should also be brought to the attention of the tribunal during the arguments. The issue of the urgent need of requirement of Krishna water for irrigation and drinking water needs in drought-hit districts of Mahbubnagar, Rangareddy and Nalgonda districts should be raised during the arguments, the Chief minister said. As a newly-formed state, Telangana has every right and qualifications to get its rightful share of water, he said. The legal experts were advised not to miss this opportunity under any circumstances as the arguments will not only protect the interests of the state but also guide the state to get its due share of Krishna waters permanently, the CM added.
