Bhubaneswar: BJP on Tuesday suspended the primary membership of five of its members for their alleged role in Monday's brutal assault on BMC additional commissioner Ratnakar Sahu. The five suspended included the three apprehended on Monday and two more who were arrested on Tuesday. "BJP president Manmohan Samal suspended the five from their primary membership based on allegations of their indulgence in violence in BMC," a communication from BJP state headquarters read.The two arrested on Tuesday were Sanjib Mishra and Sachikanta Swain. Earlier, Aparupa Narayan Rout alias Jeevan Rout, Rashmi Ranjan Mohapatra and Debashis Pradhan had been arrested for their alleged role in the assault.The arrests were made based on video and CCTV footage, DCP Jagmohan Meena said. "If involvement of more persons is known during the course of investigation, the number of arrests will go up," Meena added.On Monday, six miscreants barged into the grievance hall of the BMC, dragged Sahu out by the collar, and beat him up mercilessly in full public view following a purported phone conversation with a local BJP leader. Video footage showed Sahu, an Odisha Administrative Service (OAS) officer, being punched and kicked by the men as he was dragged out of the office in the presence of BMC employees. Condemning the attack, the OAS association has decided to go on mass leave across the state from Wednesday. "We are not satisfied with the action taken so far by the police," said All Odisha OAS association secretary, Bijoy Swain. Executive body members and representatives of the association also visited BMC headquarters to express solidarity with Sahu. "We came to boost our friend's morale since he is in trauma and shock. We will discuss separately our next course of action," said OAS association president Jyoti Ranjan Mishra.On Tuesday, BMC employees came to the office wearing black badge, while commissioner Rajesh Patil wore a black shirt as a mark of protest.
