Fuel supply restored to Tripura as Agartala-Guwahati railway line reopens

Agartala, Jun 30 (PTI) In a major relief to the people of Tripura, a railway wagon carrying fuel entered the state following the restoration of the Agartala-Guwahati railway line, officials from the state transport department said on Monday. Earlier, Transport Minister Sushanta Chowdhury had assured the public that food grain stocks were adequate, though the state was experiencing a temporary fuel shortage. With the arrival of the fuel-laden wagon on Sunday night and additional goods trains carrying essential commodities such as food grains en route, authorities declared the state "free from any kind of shortage". The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) announced the restoration of the Lumding-Badarpur hill section, specifically the damaged stretch between KM 108/6-8 in the Jatinga Lumpur-New Haflong section which had suffered major disruptions due to multiple landslides caused by continuous heavy rainfall. Limited train services resumed on June 29, with full-fledged operations scheduled to begin on Monday. The first empty goods train marked the reopening of the route, departing New Harangajao at 10.21 am. Officials expressed confidence that the restored rail services would ensure a steady flow of essential commodities, marking a significant step towards normalcy in Tripura after weeks of disruption.
