NFR restores Lumding-Badarpur route; full-fledged train services from today

Maligaon, June 29 (MExN): The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) announced the restoration of train services over the affected Jatinga Lumpur-New Haflong stretch of the Lumding-Badarpur Hill Section, with limited train operations between 12 noon and 6 PM on June 29. Full-fledged train services will resume from June 30, informed an official statement from NFR Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO). Following the successful restoration, the first empty goods train passed through the section and departed from New Harangajao at 10:21 AM, marking the resumption of traffic. The Sealdah-Silchar Kanchenjunga Express, which began its journey on June 2, became the first passenger train to traverse the restored section without any hindrance, it stated. The Sabroom-Sealdah Kanchenjunga Express followed next, while a special relief train from Rangiya ran successfully and crossed the affected section en route to Agartala, facilitating the movement of stranded passengers and restoring vital connectivity to the region, it added. According to the NFR, the section between KM 108/6-8 was severely impacted by multiple earth slips triggered by continuous heavy rainfall on June 22, resulting in major disruptions to both passenger and freight train services. In order to closely assess the situation and oversee the restoration efforts, NFR General Manager Chetan Kumar Shrivastava personally visited the site, reviewed the ongoing work, and motivated the field teams, it said. Accordingly, maximum workforce and machinery were deployed under his direction, and NFR teams worked round the clock to clear the debris and restore the track, ensuring rail traffic resumed in under a week, it added.
