Hubballi: Karnataka legislative council chairman Basavaraj Horatti welcomed Dharwad DC Divya Prabhu GRJ's move to reduce non-teaching work for school teachers.In a letter to the education minister, Madhu Bangarappa, Horatti said that the district's SSLC results for the year 2024-25 were not satisfactory. "Therefore, the deputy commissioner organised a meeting on June 25, at the beginning of the current academic year, to find solutions for improving educational quality in schools and addressing teachers' issues, aiming for better results. During the meeting, it was reported that teachers face significant challenges due to administrative tasks and mainly the distribution of nutritional meals during school hours. Managing the educational system and implementing govt programmes, including preparing quality midday meals, was a challenging task for teachers. They are responsible for daily attendance, beneficiary information for midday meals, milk distribution, and supplementary nutrition, all of which must be updated on the same day in the system. However, many teachers are not technically proficient, leading to stress and various health issues," he added.He further said, "To implement all the programmes initiated by the department, it is essential to seek advice from senior officials and create separate divisions for programme implementation, allowing teachers to dedicate their time to educational activities to enhance the quality of education. Teachers are burdened with non-teaching tasks, which affects the SSLC results."He also reiterated that this is not just a problem for Dharwad district but a pressing issue for the entire state. Therefore, other deputy commissioners in the state should collaborate with education department officials to discuss and take necessary action for improving educational quality and resolving teachers' issues.
