Leopard which killed girl in Valparai trapped | Coimbatore News - Times of India

Coimbatore: A male leopard, suspected of killing a four-year-old girl on June 20, was trapped in a cage near the child's house at Pachamalai estate in the Anamalai Tiger Reserve (ATR) in Valparai on Thursday.The four-year-old leopard was caught around 5am, in one of two camouflaged cages placed by Valparai forest range staff near a labourer's quarters where the leopard attacked the girl. The big cat had attacked a guest worker's daughter M Roshini Kumari, from Jharkhand, and dragged her into the nearby bushes. After an extensive 17-hour search, the girl's partially consumed body was found about 700 metres from her home. Following the incident, a forest department team, led by Valparai forest range officer Suresh Krishna, placed a cage near the site the next day. A second cage was set up two days later to increase the chances of trapping the predator."The leopard was later released in Ulandhi range forest in the Anaimalai Tiger Reserve," said a senior forest official from ATR.
