Mysuru: Forest officials in Mysuru launched a rescue operation on Tuesday in Chakahalli in HD Kote after villagers alerted them to the presence of a big cat. The investigation by the forest personnel confirmed that the big cat was prowling in the area. Local foresters, along with personnel attached to the Special Tiger Protection Force and Leopard Task Force, launched the combing operation and placed a cage, besides fixing trap cameras. Drone cameras and tamed elephants will be used for the operation. The deputy conservator of forest (Mysuru division) alerted the villagers about the tiger movement through messages, appealing to them to remain vigilant. Shantipura and Bochikatte villagers also summoned foresters in the morning, but examination revealed that the pugmarks of the tiger were old. Around 12.30pm, the forest department received a complaint from Chakahalli villagers, prompting staff to conduct a combing operation at the location where the pugmarks were found. The tigers roaming in the villages are believed to be a mother and her two cubs. As they frequently change their location with the cubs, the operation has to be repeatedly relocated, causing delays in capturing the tiger. Additionally, the presence of dense maize and banana plantations has provided hiding spots for the tiger, complicating capture efforts. Continuous monitoring of tiger movement is being conducted day and night, with all necessary precautions in place to prevent any untoward incidents. Report sighting to helpline The public has been requested to report sightings of the tiger to the helpline numbers: 9481990926 or 1926, and not to spread any false rumours about the tiger. Photos or videos should not be manipulated and shared on social media, creating panic among villagers. Farmers are advised to exercise caution when going to their fields, and the public is urged to fully cooperate with the departmental staff involved in the operation.
