Mumbai: The school education department failed to declare the first-year junior college admissions list on Thursday, as it was entangled in what it called "technical snags". The uncertainty will now drag on till June 30, yet another fresh date given by the education department to release the first list.Across Maharashtra, 12.7 lakh students and parents waited through the evening, refreshing screens and hoping the seat allotment information would finally blink into existence. "I've been hitting refresh on the FYJC admission portal like a ritual all evening. Each time, hoping the list will appear. There's already enough stress -- of cut-offs and competition. And now, this wait only makes the anxiety louder," said Charmi Jhaveri, an FYJC aspirant who scored 92% in her class 10 examinations.Around 10pm, the new FYJC admission schedule was finally declared (see box).Earlier in the evening, Mahesh Palkar, the state's Director of Education (Secondary), said: "We were processing the data. But the cut-off scores of colleges were not getting displayed. We are working hard to fix this issue. If resolved, we will declare the list or we will finally declare it on Monday."SSC exams were held early this year, and the results came sooner than expected -- on May 13. But for lakhs of Class 10 students in Maharashtra, that head start dissolved into a slow wait with govt first trying new centralised admission systems and then wanting to impose new reservations in minority institutes.Last year, SSC results were announced on May 27, and the first FYJC list was released on June 27.What could have been a smooth and fast transition to college turned jagged, said principals. Thrice earlier, dates were announced to declare the FYJC seat allotment list, but state failed to release the same.
